Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014: What to Expect from Big Giants?

Mobile World Congress 2014 is just a few days away to kick off. The event which does hold in Spain every year showcases upcoming Smartphones, tablets & range of other device & services. The event will last for four days, 24th – 27th February 2014. Before we move on to the expected announcements from the event it is worth mentioning that Facebook founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be headlining at the first of the week’s Mobile World Live keynote sessions on Monday, 24th February at 18:00-18:45. Here are some of the most expected product announcements which will be made on MWC 2014.

Samsung:

Samsung Unpacked 5 Samsung undoubtedly will be the event’s main highlight this year. Samsung has already announced an unpacked event which will take place on February 24, and is poised to steal the show with the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S5. Galaxy S5 is expected to feature Snapdragon 800 chipset with a Krait 400 quad-core CPU @2.5GHz and LTE Cat. 4 (150Mbps downlink). Galaxy S5 is also rumored to be launched in two different versions as Apple did with 5s & 5c models. The display is rumored to be a 5.25” QHD (2560 x 1600 pixels) resolution. Most likely it’ll be PenTile Super AMOLED and will have noticeable visual improvements over Galaxy S4. Galaxy S5 is expected to sport a 16MP/20MP Camera with 1080p video recording. It is a bit let down for a video recording as we expected UHD recording just like Galaxy Note 3. Other features are Finger Print Scanner, 3GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 32GB expandable storage and a 3,000mAh battery. The body material isn’t quite confirmed as of yet, we cannot say that whether it’ll be Metallic or plastic? But they really need to turn the game as they’ve been really bad with the design as compared to the rivals HTC, iPhone. Following are some of the leaked Images:

Apart from Galaxy S5, Samsung is also expected to announce Galaxy Tab 4 and their first Tizen OS device codenamed Redwood.

SONY:

Mobile World Congress-SONY Sony is reportedly sending press invites for the event which will be held on the same day (Feb 24) as Samsung’s event. SONY is expected to unveil Xperia Z1 successor rumored to be Xperia Z1L or Xperia Z2 codenamed Sirius. Xperia Z2 is expected to sport a 5.2” FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution display, Snapdragon 800 chipset with a Krait 400 quad-core CPU @2.3GHz, 3GB RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat, Adreno 330 GPU & 16GB expandable storage. The camera is expected to be a 20.7MP shooter capable of recording 1080p@60fps video. Following are some of the leaked Images:

NOKIA:

Mobile World Congress-NOKIA Nokia has paced quite well after introducing Windows Phones few years back & the market share is increasing for Windows Phones. Nokia is expected to make its mark at Mobile World Conference by introducing Lumia 1820, Lumia 1525, Lumia 1520V (1520 mini), & their first Android Phone Nokia Normandy. Lumia 1820 is rumored to feature a 5.2” 2K (2048 x 1080 pixels) resolution display, Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3GB RAM, Xeon flash and Lytro-like Refocus smarts as with other Lumias, 32GB internal storage and gigantic 3400mAh battery. For the Lumia 1525, unfortunately there aren’t any leaks/rumors to paint a picture, but the phablet is expected to be a whopping 6” device & will mostly have the same specs like Lumia 1820 plus 25/30MP camera. Lumia 1520V is expected to be a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. Nokia is expected to bring in the flagship phablet specs into a more compact form factor. It’ll sport a manageable 4.45” (1280 x 768 pixels) resolution display, Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB RAM, 14MP Camera & 2370mAh battery. Nokia might also unveil their first Android Phone aka Nokia Normandy. The handset is expected to be a budget Android phone running Android 4.4.1 KitKat, Snapdragon 200 chipset with 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4” WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution display, 3MP camera & 4GB of internal storage. HTC:

Mobile World Congress-HTC HTC is preparing to announce HTC One successor codenamed M8, but it is still unclear that they’ll do this at Mobile World Congress, as the rumors are that M8 will launch next month (March) in New York. The handset is expected to have a 5” FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution display, Snapdragon 800 chipset with a Krait 400 quad-core CPU @2.2GHz, 3GB RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat, UltraPixel camera (6-8MP) and Sense UI 6.
